Bento Boxes
Lifestyle NewsletterI found this great website that focuses on Ontario's local dairies and inspirational meals created by Ontario Chef's & tastemakers. The recipe below is quick and easy and can be taken as a gift when going to someone's house this summer. It even shows you where to get local cheeses. They are perfect for anyone who enjoys snacking rather then big heavy meals and you can make them look really pretty. The best part is anything goes, so use your creativity and throw one together.
Artisan Cheese Bento Boxes
SAVOUR ONTARIO KITCHEN
QUICK & EASY
SERVES 4-6
Bento boxes are a gift to portable food experiences. From lunch time to picnics and road trips, these compartmentalized boxes offer a unique, personalized way to choose your own food adventure.
Their deconstructed design naturally lends itself to a different way of experiencing food and flavours, and (in our opinion) is perfectly-suited for cheese boards. To help get you started, we’ve created two fun, all-Ontario options, but when it comes to Bento boxes and Ontario cheese, the options are limitless.
Spicy Cheese Bento
Hot Pepper Cheddar from Jensen Cheese (Simcoe, ON)
+
Ontario-made kettle-cooked salt and vinegar chips
+
Ontario cream cheese-stuffed Jalapenos
Look for Ontario-made cream cheese from M-C Dairy (Toronto, ON) or Lactantia cream cheese in your grocery aisle.
TIP
If you can’t get your hands on Jensen’s Hot Pepper Cheddar, try it with any local jalapeno or chili-flavoured Cheddar!
Sweet & Savoury Summer Bento
Dark Side of the Moo from Gunn’s Hill Artisan Cheese (Woodstock, ON)
+
Mild local pepperettes
+
Ontario Fresh Mozzarella
with Ontario wild blueberries drizzled with balsamic vinaigrette and fresh basil
Look for fresh mozzarella from Santa Lucia - International Cheese Co Ltd (Toronto, ON), Ferrante Cheese (Vaughan, ON) or Grande Cheese (various retail locations in the GTA)
TIP
Local pepperettes also pair beautifully with Farmstead Fontina from Stonetown Artisan Cheese (St. Marys, ON) or any Ontario-crafted Cheddar!
